The Netherlands Driehuis Small building Commemoration 330 m²
Westerveld has existed for more than a century. The beautiful dune landscape and architectural monuments creates an atmosphere as an open- air museum. As additions to the current rituals that are located in Westerveld, there will also be rituals for people who want to be buried in an Islamic way. These rituals are as follows: purity, forgiveness, pray, silent path and last sweet point.
During this studio I was inspired by medieval paintings and the characteristics of the oblique perspective within these paintings. With an anti-perspective drawing, you are further away from the physical reality, but at the same time closer to the core idea and the experience of the building.
The rituals are translated into a sequence of pavilions. Each pavilion support a step of the Islamic funeral ritual. The relationship between the pavilions and the relationship of the pavilions with Westerveld is essential for a harmonious design. Inspired by the medieval anti-perspectives drawings, I also have been looking for new ways to translate the rituals to represent architectural spaces.
