An exploration of the Tectonics theme through intensive model research.The Greek word tekton refers not only to the carpenter's craft, but also to the original role of the construction and the connections in a building. A tectonic approach, that is: to elevate a building to its own constructive logic. The project was set up in such a way that every meeting was dealing with a specific aspect, a solid design was created in a short time. These aspects were successively: concept, spatiality, construction, detail and final model. The prepared models follow the same order. This series only shows those models that were leading for the end result.
In addition to making and designing, observation and correction were also an essential part of the project. The design concerns a temporary yoga studio that hangs on the Akragon building in the center of Rotterdam. This prominent building will function as a host for the yoga studio (the parasite). Due to its closed nature and strict appearance, the host looks very heavy and solid, while it is inside a livily tower. The yoga studio must parasitize but at the same time it needs to get in a dialogue with the host.
The organizing idea for the concept model is light: the entire structure is wood and has a light appearance. Light will also be a design tool to find a balance in privacy and concentration in the studio. And as last every soul will leave the studio after a workout with enlightened soul.
